Before Dawn
The ends of earth, the corners of the shore,
I told you everything I meant to say,
But what's the use if you just look away?
If I'm the only one who holds on still,
What good's a memory against my will?
If love's a wrong turn, then the pain's a choice—
Whose hand now grips that lingering, broken voice?
The longing dries, what's left begins to fade,
I blame the midnight cries that I have made.
Can't push the clouds apart to find the sky,
So all I do is let the teardrops fly,
They fall and fall until the world turns grey—
I make a wish and send it on its way.
If wind could hear, would it turn back the page,
Or scatter me like leaves across the stage,
Blown down the street where nothing feels the same,
A dead leaf drifting with no one to blame?
Before the dawn, those restless birds in flight—
Could they escape with me into the night,
Away from all this burning, all this pain?
The clouds at heaven's edge—do they contain
A flower on the sea that bloomed at dawn?
After the sun has set and light is gone,
I'm past all saving, running on the waves,
And since you left, the world's just endless caves—
The ends of earth, the corners of the shore,
All exist because I can't find you anymore.
